Former NBA Star Elden Campbell dies at Age 57

Today we mourn the loss of Elden Campbell, the former Los Angeles Lakers standout and Detroit Pistons champion, who passed away on December 2, 2025 at the age of 57.

Campbell’s basketball journey began in Inglewood, California and as a Clemson Tiger, where he remains the school’s all-time leading scorer with 1,880 points, a record that still stands until this day. He was a three-time All-ACC honoree and helped lead Clemson to its only ACC regular-season title in 1990, a season that ended with a Sweet 16 appearance.

In 1990, the Lakers selected Campbell with the 27th overall pick. Over a 15-year NBA career, he played more than 1,000 games, including nine seasons in Los Angeles, and later multiple seasons with multiple teams. Campbell was known for a calm & smooth playing style, which earned him the nicknames “Easy E” and “Big E”. He averaged about 10.3 points and 5.9 rebounds per game.

Perhaps most notably, Campbell capped his career with an NBA championship in 2004 when he played for the Detroit Pistons, this was an ironic win, as he ended up defeating his former team, the LA Lakers.

Above all, Elden Campbell will be remembered not just for his stats, but for his character: a steady presence on and off the court, loved by teammates, respected by fans, and treasured by his alma mater. His contributions, from high-school gym floors to NBA arenas leave a legacy of humility, resilience, and excellence.

For the entire basketball community, today is a day of grief and remembrance.

Rest in peace, Big E. 🙏
