Sometimes a single opportunity can change the course of a person’s life.
For Harlequine Clay, that opportunity came through an arts scholarship that allowed her and her siblings to attend an arts camp as children.Looking back, she believes that experience helped shape the person she would become and ultimately influenced the creation of Creative Hearts Collective, a Tennessee nonprofit dedicated to making arts education accessible to people of all ages.
Today, through music, theater, dance, creative expression, and community engagement, Creative Hearts Collective is helping children, families, and seniors discover confidence, connection, and creativity through the arts.
And it all started because someone believed in a young artist’s potential.
The Power of Someone Believing in You
When speaking with Harlequine, one theme surfaced repeatedly: gratitude.
She understands firsthand what can happen when someone opens a door for a young person.
The scholarship that allowed her family to attend an arts camp wasn’t simply financial assistance. It was an opportunity to discover creativity, develop confidence, and imagine possibilities that may have otherwise remained out of reach.
That experience would eventually become one of the foundational inspirations behind Creative Hearts Collective.

For Harlequine, the arts have never been solely about performance.
They’re about personal growth.
They’re about helping a child discover confidence through a song.

They’re about stepping onto a stage for the first time and realizing you’re capable of more than you thought possible.
Creative Hearts Collective creates year-round opportunities for artistic development through music, theater, dance, performances, enrichment programs, and creative experiences designed to support both artistic and personal growth.
The organization believes that creativity can help people find confidence long before they find the words to fully express themselves. That belief guides everything they do.
Serving Both Ends of the Community
One aspect of Creative Hearts Collective that particularly stood out to us is its commitment to serving both young people and senior citizens.
Much of the organization’s work focuses on helping children discover their creative potential, but they have also partnered with The Pavilion Assisted Living Facility to bring music, movement, storytelling, and creative experiences to senior residents.
It’s a reminder that creativity isn’t reserved for any one age group. The arts have the ability to bridge generations, preserve stories, spark memories, and create meaningful human connection. Too often, conversations about community impact focus on one demographic or another.
Creative Hearts Collective demonstrates that meaningful impact can happen across generations.
Whether it’s helping a child discover confidence or helping a senior reconnect with cherished memories, creativity has the power to bring people together.
A Life Dedicated to the Arts
Harlequine’s passion for arts education is backed by years of experience as both an artist and educator.
She graduated from the historic Fisk University in 2023 with a Bachelor of Science in Music Education, where she performed with the renowned Fisk Jubilee Singers.
Her artistic journey has taken her far beyond Tennessee.
She trained with West End musical theatre professionals in London, England through a Performing Arts Abroad Intensive program, worked with music and opera professionals through the Nashville Opera HBCU Fellowship Program, and gained experience in arts administration through Metro Arts Nashville.
Along the way, she has served as a music educator, choir director, arts academy owner, performer, event organizer, and community leader. Each experience has reinforced a belief she carries into every aspect of her work:
