The Dutch Grand Prix 2025 has finally ended, keeping devoted fans on the edge of their seats with some dramatic turns in most of the laps. Oscar Piastri (McLaren) won, securing his 7th win this season, while his teammate, Lando Norris, faced an engine issue midway, which sadly took him out of the race and hurt his chances in the championship fight. Max Verstappen (Red Bull) came in 2nd, whereas Isack Hadjar (Racing Bulls) secured the 3rd position, marking a significant milestone in his career. This is because it was Hajdar’s first podium. Coming to Ferrari, it was a disastrous weekend for both drivers, Charles Leclerc and Lewis Hamilton, as they were forced out of the race due to their individual incidents.
What happened to Ferrari at the Dutch Grand Prix 2025?
Hamilton’s race concluded at lap 23 with an unforeseen crash. At the time, light rain took over Zandvoort, which made the circuit a little slippery. During his turn 3, he lost grip on the car, hitting the barrier at the corner’s exit. Around that time, he was positioned at 7th in the race but was dragged out after the incident.
In conversation with Sky Sports, the 7-time F1 world champion addressed his crash on the Dutch circuit. He mentioned that it was “very unusual” for him to get out of the race this early. Describing the events before the disaster, he said,“I’m really not sure. I’ll have to look back at it. But yeah, as I went up the bank, the rear snapped out and I couldn’t recover it.”
Expressing his thoughts on the car, he said, “I mean, yeah. It was a bit twitchy, the car. But I think we made real progress this weekend and my pace was looking pretty decent; I was catching George. I think I had the pace of the few cars ahead of me, but very unusual to not finish a race and to go out so early.” Not to forget, he also faced some understeer issues, which spun his car not once but twice during the practice sessions.
On the other hand, Charles Leclerc was forced out of the race after colliding with Mercedes rookie Andrea Kimi Antonelli on Lap 53. Both stopped at their respective pit stations to change their tires. As they exited the pit lane, on turn 3, Antonelli attempted to overtake Leclerc, which resulted in a dramatic collision. SF-25 was spun into the barriers, dragging Leclerc out of the competition. After the crash, Leclerc went on to criticize Ferrari’s strategy, arguing that the pit stop change wasn’t necessary. This is because he wanted to continue the race with hard tires, but Ferrari made him pitstop. On the radio, he said, “I think that was unnecessary. I mean we can never know what happened but the tires felt good. Anyway, the tires felt good. Anyway, I’m getting out.” After the incident, Antonelli faced penalty twice, initially a 10-second penalty for a collision and a further 5-second penalty for speeding in the pit lane. He came 16th at the Dutch Grand Prix.
Addressing the dramatic incident between him and Antonelli, Leclerc said,”The strategy, we can discuss about it and I just let the team know, but that’s not what created the incident. What created the incident is Kimi being overly optimistic on the inside of Turn 3, which is fine – you’ve got to be aggressive and mistakes happen.”
He added, “But it hurts, because it cost a lot to the team after what was a good race. I think the pace was good. I had to be very aggressive to make up the places that we had lost because of being unlucky during the first Safety Car. We did kind of everything right, so it was a shame.”
At present, Ferrari stands second on the leaderboard, with 260 points, followed by Red Bull and Mercedes. After today’s race, individual scores for Ferrari drivers are as follows:Leclerc – 151 and Hamilton – 109. Piastri remains on the top position, followed by Norris. Next race takes place in Autodromo Nazionale Monza circuit in Italy over the next weekend.
