2021 has seen some really great TV series come into production. Are you a fan of drama, comedy, or documentaries? We’ve compiled a list of the 10 top rated tv series from rotten tomatoes released in 2021.

  1. Hacks

This new TV show received a score of 100% on rotten tomatoes and 83% from the audience. Starring Jean Smart and Hannah Einbinder, it follows the relationship of a Las Vegas comedian and an outcast 25 year old. It premiered May 13th of this year and was created by Paul W Downs, Lucia Aniello, and Jen Statsky. There are 10 episodes in season 1 and you can watch them on HBO Max.

2. We are Lady Parts

This witty and creative comedy has intrigued viewers and gotten a score of 100% on rotten tomatoes and 81% by audiences. The story follows the band Lady Parts, who recruits a PhD student named Amina to be their guitarist. The show follows the different dynamics brought about between Amina and the members of the band. They’re not Amina’s typical crowd, and she faces new challenges as she explores outside her comfort zone. The show stars Anjana Vasan, Sarah Kameela Impey, and Faith Omole. There are six episodes from season 1 out so far, and they can be found on Peacock. 

3. Mythic Quest

The next top rated tv series is the second season of Mythic Quest. It has a score of 100% from rotten tomatoes and a 77% audience score. This show thrills viewers because of its clever writing and a great team of actors. It stars Rob McElhenney, Charlotte NicDao and Ashly Burch. There are 7 episodes out so far, and they are available on Apple TV. 

4. Dickinson

With 100% from rotten tomatoes and 82% from viewers, Dickinson wins the fourth spot on the top rated tv series list. Starring Hailee Steinfeld, this twist on Emily Dickinson’s life is comedic and full of life. Season 2 aired this spring and can be found on Apple TV. 


The third season of Pose premiered this year. A drama starring Mj Rodriguez, it follows the character Blanca as she navigates romantic life as a mother in 1994. It also centers on the AIDS deaths that skyrocketed in the 1990s. All of season 3 is available now on FX. 

6. 1971: The Year that Music Changed Everything

This documentary provides insight into the powerful music of 1971. Earning 100% from rotten tomatoes and 67% from audiences, it is a top rated tv series from 2021. Executive producers include Asif Kapadia and James Gay-Rees. The documentary is available on Apple TV. 

7. The Lady and the Dale: Miniseries 

This top rated TV series is a stunning combination of history and animation that follows the life of Liz Carmichael. Executive produced by Jay and Mark Duplass, this unique series is sure to catch your attention. You can find season one available on HBO.

8. For All Mankind

This thrilling space drama is full of bright characters and stellar writing. Season 2 premiered this year, picking up in 1983 during the cold war. With 100% from rotten tomatoes and an 83% audience score, this is a top rated tv series of 2021. Season 2 can be seen on Apple TV.

9. Invincible 

Invincible is an adult animated superhero show. Who wouldn’t want to watch it? Led by actor Steven Yeun, the show follows a 17 year old with a superhero for a father who uncovers secrets about him along the way. It premiered in March 2021 and is available on amazon prime.

10.  It’s a Sin: Miniseries

This drama premiered in February of 2021, with a rotten tomatoes score of 98% and an audience score of 93%. Set in the 1980s, it pulls the glamour from life in a beautiful coming of age story that brings meaning to grief. Starring Olly Alexander and Lydia West, the cast work together to transport the viewer back in time. Watch season 1 now on HBO Max.
